If an organisation
has no historic data on which to plan, then an acceptable norm must be used to estimate
the dry weight of articles to be laundered.
In Appendix A, a number
of different local and overseas guides or norms are quoted with relevant comments.
Collectively these guides cover a range of facilities. While they are a useful point
of departure for establishing a norm for the particular type of laundry being planned,
they vary considerably. As a guide, Table 1 lists a suggested range of weight of
articles generated weekly per bed for various health care institutions. The norm
used should be checked out with other similar organisations before being used.
